Ketoconazole exerts its effect by altering the fungal cell membrane. As a result, some people with Androgenetic alopecia use Nizoral shampoo to help reduce testosterone levels around hair follicles.
A recent article in the magazine Dermatology compared the use of Minoxidil 2% (Rogaine, Regaine) to Nizoral 1%. INSTRUCTIONS
How do I get the best results from Nizoral Shampoo 1%?
Initial treatment phase:
Use Nizoral 1% Shampoo twice a week for the first four weeks. Wet hair and pour a little shampoo into the palm of your hand. Massage well into the scalp (you can even use Nizoral as your second wash after an ordinary shampoo). Allow Nizoral to penetrate the scalp by leaving it on for 3 - 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
Prevention phase:
Use Nizoral Shampoo once every one to two weeks to prevent dandruff coming back (as above). Between treatments you can use your regular shampoo and conditioner.
